How to get your business found by Google and AI assistants
Titles, sitemaps, structured data, llms.txt and AI crawler access: what search engines and AI assistants need to understand and recommend your business.

Search is changing, the basics are not
People now ask AI assistants as well as search engines which business to choose. Both need the same thing from your website: clear, readable information about who you are and what you offer.
The foundations
Every page should have its own title and a short description that says what the page is about.
A sitemap.xml file lists your pages so search engines can find them, and robots.txt tells crawlers what they may read.
Headings should follow a clear order, and images should have short text descriptions (alt text).
Help machines understand you
Structured data (JSON-LD) describes your business in a format machines read easily: your name, address, opening hours, services and more.
An llms.txt file is a newer, optional way to give AI tools a short summary of your site.
Don't block the assistants by accident
Some websites block AI crawlers such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot or Google-Extended in robots.txt without meaning to. That can stop those assistants from learning about your business.
Whether to allow them is your choice. The point is to make that choice on purpose.
